E-Mobility in CE Europe - new developments and opportunities for electric buses

How to reach the European manufacturers of electric buses, electric cars and the operators of e-mobility in Central Eastern Europe? Who are the main key players in e-mobility in Europe? How to directly access the Purchasing Managers in automotive OEMs in Europe?

According to the FRD Center research there are over 30 manufacturers of electric buses operating in Europe.

According to most recent statistics, in Europe, total estimated electric bus stock reached 1,273 units in 2016 representing an increase of 100% over 2015. The spectacular increase of the European e-bus stock demonstrates that the European market is moving into commercial development phase. By 2030 the share of battery-electric buses is expected to reach 50% in European cities, with UK, the Netherlands, France and Poland being the major European markets for e-buses.

In the Czech Republic, as a part of the Czech National Action Plan for Clean Mobility, DPP is working on testing two-pole opportunity charged e-bus in real operation. After 2 years of successful operation of SOR/Cegelec EBN 11 vehicle (operated in total 144.000 km), pilot project continues with new generation vehicle SOR NS 12 – Electric.

In France, by 2025, Île-de-France Mobilités (Paris) and RATP plan to roll out a 100% eco-friendly bus fleet, including electric and biogas buses, in the most polluted urban areas of the Île-de-France region. With the Grand Paris des Bus programme of Île-deFrance Mobilités and the bus2025 programme by RATP, Île-de-France Mobilités and RATP will fully engage in the energy transition phase for the bus fleet and completely transform its bus depots.

In Germany, the ‘E-Bus Berlin’ project is one of about 30 core projects funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. Berlin is the first capital in the world to introduce a fully electric line in Germany, operating with four electric buses and inductive opportunity charging at the terminals.

In Hungary, the Budapesti Közlekedési Központ (BKK) is aiming to increase the clean vehicle fleet within the bus sector. This will be achieved, among others, by using electric buses. BKV, the municipality owned urban public transport operator, is running 20 e-buses purchased from a local manufacturer.

In Poland, the MZA Warsaw purchased 10 Solaris Urbino U12 ebuses as the first step toward the electrification of the city centre. In January 2018, The European Commission has approved the decision to allocate 41 million euros from the Cohesion Fund to the purchase of 130 electric buses for the Polish capital's transport system. Each bus will be adapted for people with reduced mobility and fitted with an air conditioning system and audiovisual information devices for passengers. "This new investment from Europe will very concretely improve the quality of life in Warsaw", commented the European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Crețu. "It will reduce vehicle congestion, help purify the air and provide residents of Warsaw with a clean, fast and comfortable means of transport." The buses should be in service by early 2021.

In the UK, there are currently 71 electric buses in the London fleet, and with a further six routes to be converted to electric, three by spring 2018 and a further three between 2018 and 2019, bringing the total pure electric bus fleet to 170.
