Automotive Manufacturing Sector in CE and SE Europe

What are the latest news from the automotive manufacturing sector in the Emerging European markets?


  • ŠKODA AUTO based in the Czech Republic posted operating profits totaling EUR 1.2bn for the January to September 2017 period. This represents a y/y increase of 28.3 %.
  • In the first nine months of 2017, the Romanian Dacia (Group Renault) plant production was of 231,558 vehicles.
  • In H1 2017, the Polish automotive industry increased its output by 7.5% year on year to a record-high PLN 77.4bn.
  • Metal components manufacturer, Advanex has confirmed that they will be opening a new factory in the Czech Republic during 2018. Globally, Advanex has operations in 23 countries including the United Kingdom, Japan, China, America and Thailand and produce a range of metal components suitable for the automotive and medical markets.
  • In October 2017 took place in Romania the Romanian Automotive Summit, the most important event of the year dedicated to the automobile manufacturer industry, aiming at the development of Romania as an attractive and competitive platform for this segment in Eastern Europe.
  • Slovakia is a global centre for auto assembly, a former Cold War powerhouse for tank-building turned home to major plants for South Korea’s Kia, Germany’s Volkswagen and France’s PSA. 25% of the Slovakian GDP is generated by the automotive industry.
  • The Romanian automotive manufacturing sector is one of the major pillars of the Romanian economy. The auto industry employs over 150,000 people and in 2016 contributed by 47% to the Romanian exports. In 2016 it recorded an impressive growth of 9% year-on-year.
  • According to the Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Economy, new investments of BGN 350 million could be made in the production of car parts in Bulgaria. This year, investment in the automotive manufacturing industry in Bulgaria is about BGN 70 million, and another BGN 50 million are yet to be invested. 
  • Czech car production rose 4.2% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2017, supported in part by solid domestic sales.
  • In October, Prague was the host of the Central European Automotive Forum 2017 which brought together all the leading players in the CEE automotive industry. OEMs, T1 and T2 suppliers, as well as solutions providers gathered in Prague for 2 days of news and networking.
  • Recently, Jaguar Land Rover Slovakia has officially launched a recruitment campaign to find workers for the brand new plant it is building near Nitra for EUR 1.4 bn.
