  • ŠKODA AUTO based in the Czech Republic posted operating profits totaling EUR 1.2bn for the January to September 2017 period. This represents a y/y increase of 28.3 %.

  • In H1 2017, the Polish automotive industry increased its output by 7.5% year on year to a record-high PLN 77.4bn.

  • In October 2017 took place in Romania the Romanian Automotive Summit, the most important event of the year dedicated to the automobile manufacturer industry, aiming at the development of Romania as an attractive and competitive platform for this segment in Eastern Europe.
  • Slovakia is a global centre for auto assembly, a former Cold War powerhouse for tank-building turned home to major plants for South Korea’s Kia, Germany’s Volkswagen and France’s PSA. 25% of the Slovakian GDP is generated by the automotive industry.
  • The Romanian automotive manufacturing sector is one of the major pillars of the Romanian economy. The auto industry employs over 150,000 people and in 2016 contributed by 47% to the Romanian exports. In 2016 it recorded an impressive growth of 9% year-on-year.
  • According to the Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Economy, new investments of BGN 350 million could be made in the production of car parts in Bulgaria. This year, investment in the automotive manufacturing industry in Bulgaria is about BGN 70 million, and another BGN 50 million are yet to be invested. 
  • Czech car production rose 4.2% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2017, supported in part by solid domestic sales.
  • In October, Prague was the host of the Central European Automotive Forum 2017 which brought together all the leading players in the CEE automotive industry. OEMs, T1 and T2 suppliers, as well as solutions providers gathered in Prague for 2 days of news and networking.
  • Recently, Jaguar Land Rover Slovakia has officially launched a recruitment campaign to find workers for the brand new plant it is building near Nitra for EUR 1.4 bn.

Instant noodle soups market in Romania



Romania is currently the most dynamic large market in the EU, with the highest GDP growth in Europe of 5.8% in H1 2017 after a 4.8% growth in 2016. In H1, Romania’s food imports went up 17% year-on-year, reaching almost EUR 3.5 bln.

The Romanian market of instant noodle soups is dominated by the following players and their brands:

In H1 2017, food retail opened 145 new stores, after some 250 were opened in 2016.

Las oportunidades de exportacion en los Mercados Emergentes del Europa: Rumania, Bulgaria etc.

Rumania, por ejemplo, importó productos de alimentacion y bebidas por un valor de casi 3,500 mEUR en el primer semestre de este año, un 17% más que en el mismo periodo del año anterior.

Segun un analisis del FRD Center utilizando los datos de DataComex, en los primeros siete meses del 2017, en comparacion con el mismo periodo del 2016, Rumania ha importado desde Region de Murcia casi 30% mas productos agroalimentarios y 71% mas frutas, hortalizas y legumbres con un valor de casi 5,8 mEUR.

Segun el Instituto Rumano de Estadistica, las ventas minoristas rumanas de alimentos, bebidas y tabaco registraron en agosto un aumento de 10,9%. En comparación con julio, las ventas de alimentos, bebidas y tabaco en Rumania aumentaron en agosto un 4,8%.

En los primeros ocho meses de este año, los datos del IRE rumano mostraron un aumento del 4,8% en las ventas de alimentos, bebidas y tabaco durante el mismo período del año pasado. Según la misma fuente, las ventas minoristas de alimentos, bebidas y tabaco en Rumanía han aumentado un 13,7% en 2016 en comparación con 2015.

Segun un analisis del FRD Center utilizando los datos de DataComex, en los primeros siete meses del 2017, en comparacion con el mismo periodo del 2016, las importaciones rumanas de productos de agroalimentacion provenientes de Andalucia han registrado una subida de mas de 41%, con un valor de mas de 18 mEUR mientras que las importaciones bulgaras han crescido con mas de 45%.

Las importaciones bulgaros de textiles y confeccion provenientes de Andalucia han crescido unos 36% en los primeros siete meses del 2017.

En cuanto las importaciones rumanas de productos provenientes desde Andalucia, segun un analisis del FRD Center utilizando los datos de DataComex, en los primeros siete meses del 2017 se han registrado los siguentes crescimientos:

- bienes de consumo duradero: mas de 37%
- productos quimicos: mas de 179%
- textiles y confeccion: mas de 58%
- maquinarias agricolas: casi 37%
- maquinaria para trabajar metal: casi 438%

Segun la misma analisis, las importanciones rumanas de maquinarias agricolas provenientes desde Catalunya han aumentado un 111% en los primeros siete meses del 2017, mientras que las importaciones de maquinaria para trabajar metal han registrado una subida de mas de 533%.

Desde el Principado de Asturias, Rumania ha importado en los primeros siete meses del 2017 vs. el mismo periodo del 2016, mas de 11 veces mas Maquinaria para uso general industrial, mientras que las importaciones de Maquinaria para ciertas industrias han aumentado un 23111%, desde 11.000 EUR hasta mas de 2,5 mEUR.

Tambien, en este periodo las importaciones rumanas de muebles provenientes del Principado de Asturias han aumentado un 590%, segun el analisis del FRD Center utilizando los datos de DataComex.

Furniture market in CE and SE Europe: Imports development



The markets in Emerging Europe are quite strong in furniture manufacturing and exporting. Numerous foreign manufacturers find local partners for production in CE and SE Europe.

Nevertheless, there are also numerous opportunities for global exporters looking to sell quality furniture in markets such as Romania, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Serbia, Turkey, Lithuania etc.

For example, according to a FRD Center analysis based on statistic data, the imports of furniture, lighting, signs, prefabricated buildings in Hungary went up by 18.2% in 2016 compared to 2015, followed by Romania where the imports were over 15% higher.

Due mainly to the increasing purchasing power of the 20 million Romanian population, the Romanian imports of furniture in the first five months of 2017 went up more than 7% y-t-y and have reached 256 mEUR.

At the same time, in 2016, the Romanian furniture production grew by 6.7%, exports by 7.3%, domestic consumption by 13.4%, and the number of employees in the industry increased by almost 4%.

In 2016, the Polish imports of furniture, lighting, signs, prefabricated buildings reached some 2.7 bn USD, which according to a FRD Center analysis based on statistic data, represents a 8% growth.

According to the same source, the imports of furniture, lighting, signs, prefabricated buildings in 2016 in Serbia were 9% higher while in Bulgaria and Lithuania these went up 7.8% compared to 2015.
